Slice Sixty Eight, South Molton
-
The scheme consisted of the conversion of a former hairdresser unit to a new pizza takeaway (with associated kitchen extraction plant) at ground floor in South Molton town centre.
-
Concerns were raised by the local authority regarding the amenity of the first-floor residents immediately above – they requested a noise impact assessment for the proposed kitchen extract plant and stipulated a separating floor sound reduction of 51 dB DnT,w + Ctr between the takeaway and first floor dwelling.
-
Parker Acoustics were happy to assist with the two aspects of acoustic input required to the project.
-
Firstly, we performed a noise impact assessment for the extract system and assisted with the specification of in-line attenuation to avoid adverse impacts to residents above the takeaway. Planning approval was then granted in Summer 2024.
-
Secondly, we assisted with the acoustic design for the separating floor between the takeaway and first floor apartment to satisfy Part E of the Building Regulations and the local authority criterion of 51 dB DnT,w + Ctr.
-
Once complete in Spring 2025, Parker Acoustics performed sound insulation testing to demonstrate compliance for the above criteria and all tests passed.

Highwood House, Liskeard
-
The scheme comprised the conversion of a retail unit to a new restaurant (with associated kitchen extraction plant) at ground floor and dwellings at first and second floor level in Liskeard town centre.
-
Parker Acoustics were employed to perform a noise survey and noise impact assessment to address a noise related planning condition for the proposed kitchen extract system and were also employed to assist with the acoustic design for separating walls and floors between apartments to satisfy Part E of the Building Regulations.
-
Once complete, Parker Acoustics were called in to perform sound insulation testing to demonstrate compliance for building control sign off– all tests passed with flying colours!
